WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT PLAYING LIVE?

Steven Satterfield: Getting love from the audience and then giving it back.

WHAT ASPECT OF YOUR PERSONALITY IRRITATES OTHERS THE MOST?

SS: I don't know, I guess maybe I can be critical of people that I love. Apparently that is a very virgoan trait.

TELL US ABOUT THE WORST AUDIENCE YOU'VE EVER PLAYED TO.

SS: Definitely a Columbus Ohio show that was not very well promoted. I think that there were 3 people there, who were involved in some riveting video games, and we made a grand total of $1.50. Oh yeah, it was a venue that doubled as a bagel shop.

WHAT WAS YOUR MAJOR IN COLLEGE?

SS: Architecture. I graduated after 5 intense years and then decided to play music...

NAME THREE PEOPLE YOU REALLY ADMIRE.

SS: Charles and Ray Eames, Julianne Moore, Paul Reubens.

WHAT WAS THE LAST CD YOU BOUGHT?

SS: The Warp remixes record, High Llamas, Cinematic Orchestra.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE JUNK FOOD, AND HOW OFTEN DO YOU EAT IT?

SS: Almond M&Ms, and I only eat them on the road. Otherwise, I generally don't eat junk food...

WHAT FRIGHTENS YOU?

SS: Dying from heat, drought, or falling.

WHO ARE YOU CLOSEST TO IN YOUR FAMILY?

SS: Everyone.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE HOLIDAY, AND WHY?

SS: Thanksgiving, because it's all about eating, drinking and not giving presents.

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN IN A BAR BRAWL?

SS: Not really. Well one time a guy wanted to kick my ass and I ran from him because I wanted to keep my track record clean of bar brawls.

IF YOU COULD ELECT A MUSICIAN AS PRESIDENT OF THE USA, WHO WOULD YOU CHOOSE?

SS: Definitely Beck. He has good dance moves and would make a good pawn for the White House.

HOW DO YOU RELAX AFTER A SHOW?

SS: Liquor Drinks, Liquor Drinks.

IS STARBUCKS EVIL?

SS: Not if it's the only good cup of coffee on the road.

WHAT/WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE RECORD STORE?

SS: Criminal Records in Atlanta, or Etherea in NYC.

Atlanta's Seely was the first American band to sign to Britain's semi-legendary Too Pure Records. Their latest album, Winter Birds, will be released on February 8th. According to Splendid's Theodore Defosse, "Seely are a wonderfully gifted band that dares you to pay attention if you can." We can't argue with that.

-- George Zahora
