Pierré-Andre Arcand  It has come to be expected by yours truly that a release on DAME will not only command experimental expertise, but also represent quality and innovation. Pierré-Andre Arcand presents four compositions on Écrire fair du Bruit that anaesthetize the brain with a series of trance-inducing sample manipulations that zero in on the synapses and leave all surrounding stimuli in a cloudy haze. Arcand begins at track 17, perhaps signifying that there is no beginning or "1" to his music and that his work is a continuing and evolving form of art. Track 21 is especially intriguing, as it sounds like an army of scampering mechanical rats gnawing incessantly at your skin. Similarly, Track 18 premises itself upon a low modular frequency drone and quietly applies a smattering of intriguing noises and pitch bends throughout the piece. Thought provoking, thought inducing and thoroughly intriguing, here's a CD worthy of all experimental CD connoisseurs and equally capable as a sound introduction to "the other side of music" for those less familiar with the genre.
