Joe
Smith  He writes great songs, he covers great songs! He's fittingly morose for a folk singer but still has a great sense of humor! He's the amazing Joe Smith! I really like Your Personal Envoy of Good Taste. It's full of really excellent song-writing that manages to be poignant without sounding self-conscious. I particularly recommend it to those who enjoy groups like Ida or The Red House Painters. One thing that makes Envoy distinctive from its folk-pop relatives, however, is that it contains covers of some unlikely songs, like The Stooges' "I Wanna Be Your Dog" and the "Speed Racer Theme" (yep, you heard correctly!). There's also a truly heartfelt rendition of Gershwin's "Summertime". I hope Joe Smith has some other stuff out, as I'd like to get my hands on it! In the meantime I'll just enjoy Your Personal Envoy of Good Taste.
