My Favorite

At first listen, it may sound as if you've picked up another spacey, retro-Brit-pop import. With harmonious boy-girl vocals that make your heart pitter-patter, and wiry keyboard lines that interject a heavenly resonance, My Favorite has that familiar late 80's sound that some argue died a premature death. Curiously enough, the band hails from Long Island, and not only has an obvious penchant for things New Wave, but also adds its own unique twists to create a contemporary-sounding CD that doesn't abuse its influences, but cleverly includes them in the mix. Among the luscious standouts on this CD are "Party Crashers," which sports lovely 9th chord accentuations that are equal parts Clash and The Cure, the romantic "Modulate" with its haunting interludes and the dreamy closer, "You Belong With Us." However, it's not all about keyboards and 80's references -- My Favorite aptly demonstrates that it can let the guitar strings buzz with the rocker "17 Berlin" and the anthem "Go Kid Go." And if that's not enough, Andrea Vaughn's vocals will melt you into a helpless pool of mush. Let Love at Absolute Zero quietly guide you through a relaxing day, or have it gently put you to sleep with its lulling rhythms. Whichever way you like your music, My Favorite will strike a chord of tranquillity within you.
