With a quick blast of trumpet-laced, avant-garde madness, Music For Robots lights the
fuse of unpredictable fury, resulting in a chain reaction of awe-inspiring musical
explosions. With an ear for Louisville-based math rock, this Irish trio delve into such
delicacies as Rodan's stop-start riffing, brooding and dreamy Wire-inspired dirges and
roaring, noise-fests a la Jackonuts. As the record needle parses from track to track, the Null Set offers a bit of everything for everyone. However, In some bizarre, unearthly way, the
band manages to tie these wide-ranging genres into ten songs with their own definite continuity. "Manimal's" intricate guitar work coyly teases your internal sense of
rhythm with its choppy abruptness, while the grandiose, pent-up intensity of "Mrs. Super Sex"
has the familiar sound of Pavement to it, its vocals ranging from hushed whispers to whiny
gasps of (in)stability. Teeming with creativity, The Null Set satiates cravings for
fresh, unknown talent, European exoticism and intelligently versed indie rock -- all within the confines of a humbly released 10".
