The Buddyrevelles: a band caught in a dimension somewhere in the
Pavement Zone, within an Elliott Smith shaped galaxy. A dimension
full of sound -- sound that dares to rely only on the good ol' guitar,
bass and drums for aural assertion. This trio of upstate Wisconsinites blends Aaron Grant's mellow alto-soprano vocals with relatively clean guitar melodies that entice, but do not banish the band’s style to the planet of excessively boring "snore-core." The aptly titled "Morse Code" dishes out a cryptic pitter-patter of intertwined vocals, quickly morphing into a beautiful melody of bass and guitar interaction that spells out the formula for a quality pop tune. Likewise, "Death of the Buddyrevelles" has a clever chorus that flows pleasantly through your head, soaking all available synapses with charged pop energy. However, don't expect the Buddyrevelles to be just another wimpy pop band. They aptly stand their ground with enough noise to attract attention while retaining the poignant melodies that keep their music charming. September, December reminds us that good music can still be made with basic band instrumentation and smart, creative songwriting.
