The Notwist
"Torture Day" b/w "Panama -- Electric Bear"
Zero Hour (7")
"Torture Day" is the latest single by Bavarian art-pop group The Notwist.
You can find it on the group's most current full-length CD '12' or
here in a 7" incarnation. Although "Torture Day" is certainly competent
art-
pop worth listening to, I found myself absolutely riveted to the B-side,
"Panama -- Electric Bear". The first part of the piece is atmospheric,
combining an eerie, muffled drum beat with spooky, processed guitar
textures. Eventually this mood-music transforms into a mellow acoustic
guitar/vocal lament complete with flamenco-like chords and peppered with
electronic samples vestigially reminiscent of the beginning of the piece.
If
unique, experimentally oriented B-sides are the spice of music then The
Notwist are doing their part to stave off blandness.
