D.O.A.

This Vancouver outfit has belittled just about everything in its twenty-year existence, while defining its own genre of subversive-punk. Joey Keithley continues his tirade against organized religion, bloated corporations and public apathy, yet keeps D.O.A. from being taken too seriously with yet another good number about hockey (Give 'Em the Lumber)! Keithley's relentless punk rock pursuit is admirable in its consistent output, as the familiar, bellowing vocals, stren guitar riffs and plodding rhythm section are all intact. "Death to the Multinationals" has enough intrinsic rage to satiate the political dispositions of certain fans, yet also prevails with mature songwriting that throws in an admirable chorus instead of decomposing into a heaping stack of generic, overly fast, testosterone-laced punk rock that sounds like a 10-car pileup. "Brainwash" chugs along with old fashioned, muted guitar chords that accompany the sneering, cynical lyrics berating individual choice. The disc's multimedia content offers you tour poster pics, videos and an interactive forum on "irreverent faith centers." Chalk up another score for D.O.A., as time obviously cannot soften this politically charged clan. Better stop sitting on your haunches and start thinking, or you may be the next one to get a hockey stick in the face and a certified shoulder check right into the glass, eh?
