For fourteen years the world has been blessed with The Wedding Present. Albums upon albums and singles upon singles have been filled with their stylish and brilliant guitar pop tunes, overlaid by David Gedge's soothing, British-accented vocals. This CD compiles the first two singles and mini album on their UK label Cooking Vinyl, as well as tracks that were released by other labels between 1995 and 1997. Completing this disc are tracks from the "Sucker" 7", the "Saturday Night Special No. 3" 7", the Mini mini album, the "2, 3, Go" single, the "Montreal" single and the track from the "Step Right Up: The Songs of Tom Waits" compilation. Excellent tracks include "Red Shoes By The Drugstore", "Convertible" and "Up" -- all of them fast bouncy numbers, something The Wedding Present does best. The only unfortunate track is "Where Everyone Knows Your Name (Theme From Cheers)" -- not because it's an awful rendition, but rather because of the image of Ted Danson's hair weave that comes to mind while listening. |
