O.K., I've got to admit something...as hard as it is...I like simple, unpretentious pop punk! I'm not much of a Green Day fan, but a band like Blink 182 has been know to show up in favorites lists of mine from time to time. And I'll open up even further and say that I've got a soft spot in my heart for silly-pop groups like Weezer and Nerf Herder. So now that it's out, I'd like to address the rest of this review to those of you who may be like me. Here goes...BUY Look Forward to Failure! BUY IT NOW! It's only 15 minutes long, but it rocks way hard enough to compensate. The combination of fast, riff-driven guitar rock and witty, teen-friendly lyrics make The Ataris a fine example of that branch of the punk rock family tree that is estranged from Granny Sex Pistol but still on speaking terms with Great-Grandpa Ramone and likes to spend the holidays with the East Bay wing of the clan. My favorite track on the album is "My So Called Life"; it's a tale of teenage obsession describing the author's unrequited love for Claire Danes that is just tongue-in-cheek enough to be funny, yet just sincere enough to be sweet.
