Captive Audience
Combining the familiar feel of electronic house music and the wickedness of sleazy Eurotrash culture, Captive Audience places the emphasis on beats and samples on their Pivotal release. Obviously schooled with influences from the poised stolidity of Kraftwerk to the etherealness of FSOL, Captive Audience introduces you to electronic music -- their form of electronic music. With sample sources ranging from Shelia Chandra to South Park, the duo of Conley and Warwick place two distinctive treads on their CD. Tracks like "Faces of the Moon" and "Bring Your Pillow" reveal the more introspective side of the band, as their keyboards envelop the immediate aural environment and peacefully cushion your ears. At the other end of the spectrum, the John Waters influenced "Filth -- Sodomite Mix" issues a furious whack to your fleshy cheek, only contemplating consequences for a brief blip of time. Captive Audience approaches techno from an honest, DIY approach (the CD is self released) that harkens back to the pure techno days of the late 80's and early 90's. Refreshingly...well...traditional!
