A trip to the market generally consists of picking up some eggs, milk, bread
and other staple items that for all intents and purposes will keep you alive.
On the other hand, a visit to the Starmarket will leave you battered and
bruised and wondering how the hell you made it out alive. Receiving a boot
to the skull at the end of the cereal aisle isn't part of your average
shopping experience. Thankfully Starmarket -- the band -- are a much more
consumer-friendly experience. For Sunday's Worst Enemy this Swedish
four-piece has crafted 14 blistering emo-core anthems. Blessed with a will to rock
and an ear for melody, Starmarket have the uncanny ability to give hardcore a
heart. You can attribute this to Fredrik Brandstrom's heartfelt lyrical
twists as well as his thundering-yet-sensitive vocal delivery. This trait is
showcased brilliantly on opener "Repetiton," as the emotive delivery
punches its way though the blazing twin-guitar attack. Other songs --
for instance, "Your Style" and "Safe Bayou" -- use strands of melody coupled with smoldering
riffs and frantic rhythms to smash in your head while winning your heart. Album highlight "Teencider" is a frenzied call-to-arms, with chiming, circular guitars wrapping themselves tightly around a blitzkreig rhythm and Brandstrom's furtive howl. There's not a dull moment
to be found here; each song buries itself deeper in your
head and heart. Sunday's Worst Enemy is a trip to the market definitely worth
taking...but this time the milk and eggs are optional.
