Screeching Weasel
Just like that one ex-girlfriend (or boyfriend) of yours, Screeching Weasel continues its cyclical behaviour of breaking up and getting back together. Sound familiar? Well, now that you can relate, try focusing on the latest manifestation of Screeching Weasel on Fat Wreck. Historically speaking, these guys have been perfecting the pop-punk genre for over a decade, so if Screeching Weasel equals a lot of questions marks in your head you've got a lot of backtracking to do! This batch of strong songwriting from Ben Weasel and Co., with catchy choruses, "whoa-ohs," and rippin' guitar wholly embraces the attitude of previous releases. Like most Weasel records, there are still a few blase, under-realized tunes, but "Speed of Mutation," "Dummy Up" and "Dirty Needles" all take the band's patented sarcasm, melodious punk-pop guitar and bouncy, nasal vocals and prove that the Weasel machine still has plenty to offer musically. If your recommended daily allowance of songs about girls, personal reflection and sulking over identification issues is below par, then Television City Dream may help restore those vital nutrients. Don't wait too long, because Screeching Weasel may call it quits -- again -- and mean it this time!
