It's not what you'd expect, really. The band's name and pinkish cover art prime your expectations for some kind of retro pop Moog collectors. Instead, you get angry hardcore kids breaking shit and sticking it to The Man.
Low Art leads with its ace: "Kill Melody" opens with distant noodling, then it knocks down your door with its unhinged and angular screamo Quicksand riffage. "Resit Youth" starts off with 15 seconds of the Strokes shilling Tom Petty, but then it's back into the full-throttle aggression that consumes the album, back and forth between steady hardcore and choppy metal breakdowns. It's a dedicated and ambitious attack that lacks the kind of hardcore charisma Avail used to sport. Props are due for some interesting arrangements, though, even though the songs all sound a bit samey. Keep in mind that these guys have only been playing together for a year and a half. There's reason enough here to keep an eye out for their next release.
