Soundclip: "Feeling Like I Do"

While they're best known for their mid-'90s radio hit "Sucked Out", the lads of Superdrag would like you to know that they are indeed still around, and making some of the best records of their career, full of all the sucker-punch hooks and melodic guitar crunch you'd expect from four power-pop obsessed Tennesseans. Last Call for Vitriol is their strongest effort to date -- a stylishly crafted rock 'n' roll record that bristles with infectious energy and top-notch songwriting. The crackling "Baby Goes to 11" is bolstered by a plague-strength riff and backing vocals courtesy of Mr. Robert Pollard, and the fuzz-guitar and ire coated "So Insincere" will appeal to the garage rock set, while the sweetly sour "Way Down Here Without You" sounds, strangely enough, like Big Star on massive amounts of Quaaludes. Superdrag is the only modern American power-pop band that actually matters -- a bold claim for certain, but one that's particularly hard to deny, especially after hearing the distinctly Cheap Trick-y undercurrent informing "Remain Yer Strange" and the Raspberries-like strut of "Feeling Like I Do".
