Okay, I admit it: I laughed the first time I heard "Cameltoe", Fannypack's caustic ode to the -- ahem -- female frontal wedgie. The second time I heard it I realized it was basically a series of old jokes linked by some dubious rapping -- in other words, a fairly standard novelty song, As for the rest of the record -- because you're too smart to pay fifteen bucks for twelve different mixes of "Cameltoe", right? -- it's basically attitude-laden fluff. Rappers Jessibel, Belinda and Cat come off as a shallower, more demographically mixed Salt-n-Pepa, rapping and babbling over better-than-average breaks and electro beats; svengali-producers Matt and Fancy are the real talents here, cooking up punchy, vibrant backing tracks (see the title track, "The Theme from Fannypack" and the über-derivative house romp "System Boomin'" for the best examples) that make So Stylistic too much fun to rip out of the CD player and throw against the wall. The rapping is adequate if undistinguished, and the between-track banter is downright insipid, but the intended audience won't care; Fannypack are hot, wear tiny, tight outfits and dish up carefully-honed Brooklyn attitude. If you're fifteen years old, female, and want to rebel, So Stylistic probably makes a lot more sense than a Bright Eyes record. If you're any older, it'll probably just make you feel dirty.
